leafytreesandtea (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Howdy everyone! Danny here with a scammer that I helped our new member, Mage, catch today. Mage found leafytreesandtea in Aldan's Appondale asking people to gift them for an item back, taking extra care to note that it was "scam-free". Mage tried to press them about this, but they went silent for a bit before retreating to Brady Barr's Lab, where they started the same spiel again.

I went up to them and asked a very simple question, which was why people couldn't just trade them. They went silent for a bit, so I asked again, to which they replied "u can omg stop bugging me". I'm assuming they meant people could trade instead of gifting (they did have rares on trade, but that seems to be a separate operation from their gift swap scam).

They kept going silent and not responding to me, so I pushed them on them, to which they claimed they hadn't been paying attention to me because they were to busy sending back gifts.

I asked them again why they were insisting on people gifting them instead of using the trading system, to which they stood silent for a few minutes again before replying that they just want to gift people, and I should let them do what they want.

They went on to claim that if I were to ask other people in the room (which is completely impractical, since there were like 25 - 30 players crammed in this tiny room), they would attest that they were not scamming people. Obviously, nobody else really has any way to prove this.

They then dared me to gift them, to which I replied that I obviously wouldn't. They tried taunting me by saying it's because I don't want to be proven wrong (and not because that's how you get scammed), and also that they didn't have to use the trading system if they don't want to.

Another player came up and started claiming that leafytreesandtea was not scamming, and that they had given out items.

I explained to them that the trading system exists to swap items, just like they were trying to do, and using the gifting system only takes way more time and gives them the opportunity to run off with people's items. Their "bulletproof" rebuttal to this was telling me to let them waste their time and leave them alone.

They eventually ran off, but returned later to continue their trickery. As an aside, a surprising amount of people that hang out in Aldan are apparently totally chill with scamming? A lot of people were actually defending their reasoning of simply not wanting to use the trade system. It's wild.
Of course, if you are trading items, there is never an excuse to not use the trading system - it literally has one purpose, and it is for swapping items with other players. Even if you are allegedly sending people stuff back, there is truly no way to prove this, and it still gives you the perfect opportunity to run off with someone's stuff while still having plausible deniability.

Make sure to report leafytreesandtea for scamming. Again, special thanks to Mage for finding this scammer, I'm mainly posting this on their behalf because they don't have posting privileges yet. Stay safe and always use the trading system!
