Random Saturday Ep. 74: Installing the AJPC App

Hey everyone! Clover here with another Random Saturday. This week, we will be going over how to install the AJPC app.

As most of us are aware, Adobe Flash Player shut down in December, so the only way we can play the PC version of Animal Jam is to download the app. Fortunately, it's a simple process.

First of all, you will need a computer that is able to run the app. The app is downloadable on PC and Mac, however, if you're on a Chromebook you're out of luck. Once you go onto the Animal Jam Classic website, click the icon that says "Download for PC & Mac."

Once you click the icon, a file titled "AnimalJamInstaller" will save as an .exe file. Once you open the file, the app will install on its own.

Once the app is done installing, Animal Jam will open on its own, and you can log in normally!

Once you close the app for the first time, it will make a shortcut on your desktop so you can log in easier from then on.

Anyways, that concludes this episode! Have fun playing Animal Jam, and thank you for reading our newest edition of Random Saturdays!

yuliyag11 (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Hey guys! Sunny here with another scammer post. I was in Jamaa Township when I saw them advertising for a giveaway. Most giveaways are scams, so I went to go check it out.

There were three other people there, but one person left as soon as yuliyag11 said what we had to do. They said we would trade them and then they would trade back. This is trust trade where the scammer will make you trade for a worse item compared to the one they are giving away. When you trade a good item they will most likely lock the den. The item they where giving away was a rim new years eve party hat.

They said that if we thought it was a scam then don't be here. Scammers normally say that if people start to accuse them.

When the other person started to say neither of us will win unless one of us trades a spike, yuliyag11 said why would I need a spike, I can't wear them. They could have a member spare that could wear spikes.

They locked the den after neither of us traded. The other person didn't get scammed and I didn't get scammed either. Stay safe and don't fall for scams!

Random Saturday Ep 73: New Year's Fortune

Hello! Agent Quacc here with another Random Saturday, and for today's post, we will be taking a look at the New Year's Fortune adventure.

Animal Jam announces the adventure in the Jamaa Journal every January in celebration of the Chinese New Year. For this year, Animal Jam also released a bunch of ox themed items that are in stores to celebrate the year of the ox.

Like most seasonal adventures, you can find New Year's Fortune when you click on the party icon.

The adventure starts with Liza the alpha. She explains that you could find red envelopes that give you prizes or gems that are found all over the map. The envelopes relocate every two minutes so you have to find the envelopes as quick as you can.

To help you find the envelopes on time, a Lucky Dragon accompanies you in the top left corner of your screen. The closer the colour of the dragon is to red, the closer you are to the envelope (which means that the icy dragon means you're far away).

There are even chests and gem tokens that are scattered all over the map, but they also move around like the red envelopes. There are also an endless amount of envelopes for you to collect too.

That's all for today, thank you for reading!

Generati0nz/xSoftEchoes (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Howdy everyone, this is Danny with a scammer I encountered the other day. I was in Jamaa Township when I saw Generati0nz advertising for an opportunity to get a variety of rare items by searching for "French Promos AJ :D!". They claimed that there was proof of this scheme giving people headdresses on the channel as well.

This sounded fishy to me, so I decided to go check it out. I searched for "French Promos AJ :D!" and found a YouTube channel known as xSoftEchoes. The channel only had a few videos uploaded, including the aforementioned "French Promos AJ :D!" video as well as the so-called proof of this scheme giving people rare items.

In the French Promos AJ video, a member account (username not shown, of course) instructs people to go to xSoftEchoes' YouTube channel and click the link to the French AJ servers in their channel's About page and login to the game. The video then shows this user clicking on the link to the French AJ website in the channel description, entering their login information, loading into the game, and going into their den.
The "loophole" they claim will get you rare items is then shown. The user opens the settings drop-down menu in-game and opens the option to redeem a code. They try to enter the code "rimheaddress" repeatedly, only to get a popup telling them the code is invalid each time. After several tries, Animal Jam's automated security captcha pops up as a result of trying to enter an invalid code too many times. After completing the captcha, the player then closes out the redeem code window and opens their inventory to reveal a RIM headdress, apparently claiming that they got that from doing whatever it was they just did.

I went to their channel's About page and saw the link to the French AJ server they had allegedly used in the video.

I clicked on the link and was taken to what looked to be a French version of the Animal Jam Classic website... except it wasn't.
This is known as the "Fake AJ" phishing scam. While this website may look very similar to the official Animal Jam Classic website, except in another language, it is actually a duplicate being hosted by somebody else. In other words, it's a fake website a scammer made to trick people into entering their Animal Jam username and password to the site.
If you look at the address bar of the site, the address is a bunch of gobbledy-gook that looks like someone trying to type the word "Animal Jam" with their eyes closed. In addition, as indicated by the "000webhostapp" in the URL and the 000webhost banner in the lower right corner of the page, this site is being hosted by a free webhosting platform, not by AJHQ. If you try and enter your login information on this site, you will not log into the game - rather, the scammer who owns this site will now have your username and password for Animal Jam.

I have already reported this website to 000webhost, so it will likely be taken down soon. However, I don't doubt that xSoftEchoes will end up making another one once they notice it has been deleted, so our best bet is to get their YouTube channel taken down altogether. If you can spare a minute, I encourage you to go to this person's channel and report them for scam/fraud. Please also report Generati0nz for safety.

Now, usually, this is usually where I would end the post, but I found some other things while looking at xSoftEchoes' channel that I think would be fun to take a closer look at. If you aren't really interested in that, then feel free to move on with your day, but if you have some free time on your hands, I will put the rest of my findings under the jump break, so click "read more" and we can go on a deep dive examination of this person's channel together.

camibagels3 (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Howdy all, Danny here with a scammer I encountered today. I was in Jamaa Township when I saw camibagels3 advertising that if you bought something from their shop, they would give you a free spike if you told them what you had bought.

This sounded kind of fishy to me, so I went to camibagels3's den to check it out. Their shop had several items in it, most notably a yellow long spike and an orange long spike priced at 475 diamonds and 430 diamonds respectively. The rest of the items in their shop were miscellaneous in-stores items and items from the dance party themed Jammer parties. camibagels3 did not specify what items to buy from the shop to get the free spike, and I was very suspicious of the idea that they were going to be giving out free spikes to people who only spent 3 diamonds when, judging by the appropriately priced spikes in their shop, they knew how much they were usually worth.

I went back to Jamaa Township and noticed two players confronting camibagels3 about not holding up their end of the deal. One player said they had bought from the shop, presumably having not received anything in return, while another player accused camibagels3 of scamming. Surprisingly, camibagels3 completely ignored these people and kept advertising.

At this point, they had also changed their advertisement to instead claim they were giving away solids (black long collars) to people who bought from their shop. This makes their promise of free spikes even more hard to believe.

I sent camibagels3 a JAG asking if we would receive the spike if we bought anything from their shop. They responded to confirm this.

I JAG'd them again asking, if that was the case, why they don't just put the spikes up for sale for 3 diamonds each. No response. I checked their player card again and noticed the den and Jammer Wall icons on their card were grayed out. I tried to send them a JAG, but they were no longer accepting JAGs. I can only assume they blocked me.

Interestingly, camibagels3 also had a single masterpiece in their den next to the shop - pink text on a black background proclaiming that their main account was Camibagels. This is a pretty weird thing to proclaim. I looked up Camibagels on Google, and found someone with a small YouTube channel making AJ videos. They seemed like a completely different person from the camibagels3 who was falsely advertising for free spikes.

camibagels3 was very obviously scamming here, and so the choice to make a masterpiece randomly claiming to be the side account of some other person with a similar username leads me to believe this is some weird, elaborate scheme to frame Camibagels for scamming.
Report camibagels3 for scamming. Stay safe and don't believe everything you hear!

sedehq (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Hey all, Jade here with another scammer post! Today we’ll be discussing a scammer that was submitted to our Scammer Report Form a few months ago by a jammer who wishes to be called Cat.

Cat was walking around Jamaa when they spotted sedehq offering to trade away what they called "hacked pet seahorses". Cat confronted sedehq about the scam, but they insisted that the pets were really hacked. When asked what made them hacked, they said that they didn't know, but that they traded a RIM Headdress for them. After numerous people had accused sedehq of scamming, they logged off.

This scam is a great example of the “unreleased pet accessory” scam, which is explained in further detail in the Agent Insights posts here and here. The pets used in these scams aren't actually worth anything, as they can be obtained with a simple glitch. Since many people don’t know about these glitched pets, scammers will try to trick people into trading good items for the worthless pets.

In order to avoid scams like these, you can read through resources such as our Types of Scams page and Agent Insights posts, and make sure to carefully research any trades you’re making before you go through with them. If somebody ever asks you to do something strange, such as trading your items for “hacked” pets, just take a moment and think critically about what you’re doing. Often, scams succeed because you weren’t paying attention and didn’t stop to think.

Please report sedehq for scamming, and keep a careful eye out for tricky scams like this! Stay safe out there, everyone, and Jam On!

Update Post - December

Hello everyone! Flint here to bring you the society updates from December 2020.

Firstly, we have decided to remove Agent Insights from the schedule, and only post them when there is something important we specifically want to say, or when something new comes to light that we want to make sure everyone knows about instead of making a new one every week. Agent Insights will still be a thing, they just won't be posted every Tuesday.

Second, you may have noticed that we have recently added a new page to the blog - the Rare Item Guide. Its purpose is to help people tell the difference between actually valuable items and less-valuable items that look very similar to the valuable ones. We hope this can help you all avoid scams involving scammers trying to convince people that un-glitched items are actually glitched, or that cheap yet similar-looking junk is actually rare. Go check it out!

We have also been working on some internal changes to things like the posting schedule. These decisions are not finalized as of yet, but we will let you know when they are.

We'd like to remind everyone that the Scammer Report Form is highly recommended if you have evidence of a scam and want it made into a post. Just remember to follow all the quality guidelines outlined on the Report Scammers page, and your form will likely be made into a post. We appreciate your contributions!

Finally, we are currently hiring! Just head on over to our Joining page for more details. Former agents who want to rejoin, please use the rehiring form instead of the regular application form.

That's all for now. Happy 2021!
