Ik88799 + Preposition (AJPC)

Do not attempt to track down or harass any of the scammers we post. We only ask that you report them, and maybe block them.

Howdy everyone, Danny here with a scammer duo I encountered yesterday - Ik88799 and Preposition (note that Ik88799's username starts with an uppercase "i", not a lowercase "L"). I was in Crystal Sands when I saw Ik88799 advertising that they would be giving away a headdress in their den, so I went to check it out.

There were a lot of people there, including Preposition, who was sitting in the corner of the den. Ik88799 eventually came back and announced the giveaway would happen in 2 rounds. During the first round, they would be giving away a red long spiked wristband. Many scam giveaways will often employ the use of multiple rounds to build trust with the giveaway attendants and make them seem more trustworthy in preparation for the betrayal that awaits them.

Ik88799 said that the giveaway would be "first JAG", meaning that the first person who sent them a JAG after the starting signal would win the item.

They said "go", we all sent JAGs, and they announced that Preposition had won the giveaway. Preposition humbly accepted the prize and we moved into the next portion of the giveaway.

I was a little suspicious of course, as I already had an inkling this whole thing was going to be a scam, (that was basically the only reason I showed up). I checked Preposition's player card and was unsurprised to see they had little more than 8 achievements, excluding the default "Color Me Rad" achievement that all players have by default.

Nevertheless, Ik88799 announced that the giveaway for the headdress would be a "competition" of sorts.

Preposition asked if the giveaway was going to be trust trading. They also commented that if it was, they were going to leave, but I unfortunately didn't get a screenshot of that.

Ik88799 said they would be doing "trolling". Trolling usually refers to trading somebody a really good item, but then declining the trade at the last minute before they can accept.

They went on to explain that this was different from trust trading in that there wouldn't be any accepting of trades, but rather, the trolling would involve trading Ik88799, accepting the trade twice, and then hitting cancel. There is only a very, VERY small window to cancel your trade after it has been accepted, a window most people will not be able to use because they aren't expecting it or because their reaction time is not quick enough. The idea is that the scammer will accept these trades and then give the items back, until they get an item they think is good enough to keep, at which point they will lock the den.

Myself and another person raised concerns that this was exactly what trust trading was. Ik88799 tried to tell us it was different because you accepted but canceled at the last minute, to which we tried to explain that that IS trust trading.

They ignored us and continued to try and explain it to the people who were actually trying to trade. Preposition went up to bat in their place and told us the exact same thing, trying to explain that it wasn't trust trading and we would not lose our items.

I told them that was what trust trading was, and explained that there was a very small window to cancel after accepting that most people wouldn't get. They just repeatedly told me that I was confused, and Ik88799 tried to encourage me to trade them something "small" to test it out. Obviously, I declined.

They shortly announced that Preposition was in the lead with a green short collar. Myself and another player in their den made some sarcastic comments about how Preposition was once again winning the giveaway. Ik88799 wasn't a fan of that and immediately locked me out of the den.

Make sure to report Ik88799 and Preposition for scamming. Stay safe and always think before you trade!

  1. Woah.. 2 accounts with membership AND headdresses? And they are spares? This person either did some advanced scamming or was really rare and traded the headdress to that account.
I don't even have a solid on my account :/

    1. Yep. We normally do not post spare accounts since the scammer made them with the expectation they would get suspended, so reporting them probably won't do much, but since this person went to all the effort of getting memberships for both accounts, I have a feeling they'll be using them pretty often.
